The Father's (Dad's) Role

Dad's Role

This study examines the Father's (Dad) role in the home.
Followed by a look at the Father's role in a  BIBLICAL HOME vs MODERN CHURCH SYSTEM

In the time of Yeshua (1st-century Judea), the father held a central, Yah-ordained role in both the home and in Sabbath observance. This wasn’t based on later church structures—it comes straight from what we call today the Old Testament (Torah and Prophets), which was the only Scripture they had.

🏠 THE FATHER’S ROLE IN THE HOME

1. Teacher of Yahweh’s Law

The father was responsible to teach his children daily:

  • Deuteronomy 6:6–7
“You shall teach them diligently to your children… when you sit in your house…”

👉 This shows:

  • Teaching wasn’t outsourced to a religious institution
  • It was constant, daily, in the home

2. Spiritual Leader of the Household

The father led the family in obedience:

  • Genesis 18:19
Abraham was chosen because he would “command his children… to keep the way of Yahweh.”

👉 The father:

  • Set the spiritual direction
  • Was accountable for the household before Yahweh

3. Protector and Provider (Physical & Spiritual)

  • Provided food, shelter, and protection
  • But also guarded the spiritual purity of the home

This included:

  • Removing idolatry (Joshua 24:15 — “as for me and my house…”)
  • Leading the family in covenant faithfulness

4. Priest-like Role (Before Temple/Outside Temple)

While Levites served in the Temple, the father functioned as a household leader in worship:

  • Example: Passover (Exodus 12)
The father led the observance and explained its meaning to the children

👉 He acted as:

  • Teacher
  • Leader in worship
  • Interpreter of Scripture to his family

🕯️ THE FATHER’S ROLE IN SABBATH GATHERINGS (IN THE HOME)

In Yeshua’s time, people did attend synagogues, but the core of Sabbath life was still in the home.

1. He Led the Sabbath Meal & Blessings

The father would:

  • Bless the bread and wine
  • Give thanks to Yahweh
  • Set apart the day as holy

👉 This established the home as a place of worship, not just the synagogue.

2. He Taught Scripture on the Sabbath

Sabbath was a key teaching time:

  • Reviewing Torah
  • Explaining commandments
  • Answering children’s questions

👉 This mirrors:

  • Deuteronomy 6 (daily teaching)
  • Exodus 13:14 (“when your son asks…”)

3. He Led Family Worship (Not a Single-Man Church System)

In contrast to later institutional structures:

  • The father did not hand off spiritual authority to a hierarchy
  • Worship was participatory and family-centered

👉 The pattern:

  • Home-based
  • Scripture-centered
  • Father-led

4. He Modeled Obedience

Children learned by watching:

  • Keeping the Sabbath holy
  • Avoiding work
  • Honoring Yahweh

👉 The father’s life was the living example.

🔥 KEY TRUTH

In Yeshua’s time:

  • There was no New Testament
  • No centralized church system like today
  • The home—led by the father—was the primary place of spiritual formation

Here’s a hard-hitting, bold side-by-side study you can use directly for printed handouts

⚔️ BIBLICAL HOME vs MODERN CHURCH SYSTEM ⚔️

🏠 BIBLICAL HOME (YAHWEH’S DESIGN)

VS

🏛️ MODERN CHURCH SYSTEM (MAN’S TRADITION)

📖 WHO TEACHES?

BIBLICAL HOME:
👉 The FATHER teaches daily
👉 Deuteronomy 6:7 — “Teach them diligently… in your house”
👉 Children learn directly from their parents

MODERN CHURCH:
👉 A PASTOR teaches once a week
👉 Parents sit silent while others instruct their children

🕯️ WHERE IS WORSHIP?

BIBLICAL HOME:
👉 In the home
👉 Family-centered Sabbath gatherings
👉 Simple, personal, obedient

MODERN CHURCH:
👉 In buildings
👉 Stage, system, organization
👉 Institutional religion replaces the home

👨‍👩‍👧 WHO LEADS?

BIBLICAL HOME:
👉 The FATHER is the spiritual head
👉 Leads prayer, teaching, and obedience
👉 Accountable for his household

MODERN CHURCH:
👉 A HIERARCHY leads
👉 Pastor / ministers control teaching
👉 Families become dependent

🔥 WHAT IS TAUGHT?

BIBLICAL HOME:
👉 Scripture (Old Testament in Yeshua’s time)
👉 Torah, Prophets, Truth
👉 No man-made doctrine

MODERN CHURCH:
👉 Traditions of men
👉 Doctrines not found in Scripture
👉 Often contradict Yahweh’s commands

🧱 STRUCTURE

BIBLICAL HOME:
👉 Decentralized
👉 Every home a place of worship
👉 No single earthly authority

MODERN CHURCH:
👉 Centralized system
👉 One man speaks, many listen
👉 Control flows from the top

⚖️ RESULT

BIBLICAL HOME:
Strong families
Children grounded in truth
Personal responsibility before Yahweh

MODERN CHURCH:
Spiritually dependent followers
Families divided or passive
Authority shifted away from the home

🔥 FINAL WARNING

Yeshua said:
“In vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” — Matthew 15:9

⚔️ THE CHOICE

👉 Return to the Biblical pattern
OR
👉 Remain in systems built by men

“As for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.” — Joshua 24:15
