Iran and: The “Prince of Persia”

Who we are fighting when we attack Iran

In this study I will show WHO the Prince of Persia is, why it is important and who Michael is.

The “Prince of Persia” appears in the Book of Daniel. In that passage, a heavenly messenger tells Daniel:

“The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days…” (Daniel 10:13)

Who is the Prince of Persia?

A Spiritual Power Behind the Persian Empire

The “Prince of Persia” was not a human king, but a powerful spiritual being influencing or representing the Persian Empire. Modern day Iran.

The context includes another figure, Michael the Archangel, who comes to help the messenger.  Michael is an angelic being. The Prince of Persia is likewise a supernatural ruler in opposition to God’s purposes.

Nations have unseen spiritual conflicts behind earthly events.

Why It Matters in Daniel

The message emphasizes that earthly history and politics are not the whole story. Daniel portrays an unseen struggle connected to kingdoms like Persian Empire, Greece (also later mentioned), and God’s people.

In Simple Terms

The Prince of Persia is a spiritual ruler or demonic power associated with Persia, opposing God’s messenger until Michael intervened.

Daniel 10 is one of the main passages people use when discussing “territorial spirits”—the idea that certain spiritual beings influence specific nations, regions, or governments.

What Daniel 10 Says

A heavenly messenger tells Daniel that:

• the Prince of Persia resisted him for 21 days
• Michael the Archangel came to help
• later he would face the Prince of Greece

This shows conflict involving spiritual powers connected with empires, not merely human politics.

Territorial Spirits

• Persia and Greece are named as kingdoms.
• “Princes” seem more than human rulers because they contend with angels.
• Book of Ephesians 6:12 speaks of struggles against “principalities… powers… rulers of darkness.”

Some fallen powers operate over regions or systems.

What the Bible Clearly Shows

• unseen spiritual conflict
• evil influences over societies and rulers
• Satan seeking power over kingdoms (seen in the temptation of Yeshua of Nazareth)
• prayer matters in spiritual struggle

Daniel 10 shows that spiritual powers can be connected to world kingdoms, scripture warns us that unseen conflict is real.

Practical Biblical Focus

• resist evil
• pray
• live righteously
• proclaim truth
• trust God’s authority

Not chasing hidden hierarchies.

The Prince of Persia in the Book of Daniel is still in charge of modern Iran ancient Persia geographically overlaps much of present-day Iran.

Why the Connection

Ancient Persian Empire is historically rooted in the lands of modern Iran. Since Daniel names Persia specifically, the modern Persian successor state still carries prophetic significance.

One More Thought

The larger message of Daniel is usually that God rules over nations despite unseen conflicts, more than giving a codebook for modern geopolitics.

In the Book of Daniel, Michael is shown to be a powerful heavenly defender connected with Daniel’s people—Israel.

Where It Appears

In Daniel 10, the messenger says:

• “Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me…”
• later he calls Michael “your prince” when speaking to Daniel.

Since Daniel was part of Israel/Judah, “your prince” is understood to mean the heavenly protector associated with Daniel’s people.

In Daniel 12:1 it says:

“At that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the children of your people…”

Michael has a protective role regarding Israel.

Who Is Michael?

Michael is understood as:

• a chief angelic ruler
• warrior and defender
• servant of God opposing hostile spiritual powers

He also appears in Epistle of Jude and Book of Revelation where he is involved in spiritual conflict.

Why He Is Called “Your Prince”

“Prince” here likely means ruler, chief, or guardian—not a human monarch. In Daniel 10, other “princes” are linked to Persia and Greece, so Michael appears as the heavenly prince aligned with God’s covenant people.

What It Does Not Necessarily Mean

It does not mean:

• Israel worships Michael
• Michael replaces God

Daniel emphasizes that while empires like Persia and Greece seem dominant on earth, God has authority and assigns protection to His people.

The Tanks

It's been a fairly mild winter here in central Kentucky. We did have a short bitter cold spell. I've seen worse. No matter the outside weather I still have an indoor garden in a spare bedroom turned office and now hydroponic room. I use the Kratky Method. It's so simple. No hoses, no pumps. Just set it and forget it. It's so nice to be able to harvest fresh greens in the comfort of your home, in your pajamas. YEAR ROUND.

I've planted many vegetables. A few of my favorites that are so easy are. Kale, Spinach, Lettuce, and Onions. I've planted Tomatoes, Peppers, and even Bush Cucumbers.  I love to make my own Kale chips. I'll post more on that. 

Here is my Kratky Hydroponic garden. I use 10 gallon Rubbermaid Totes I buy used at Goodwill. New Rubbermaid Totes will cost about $20 each. Used ones from Goodwill run around $3. I found the 10 gallon to be the best size.

Color doesn't matter. Make sure you get lids to go with them. 

Use a Hole Cutter to cut various size holes for Net Pots

You will need to cut holes in the Rubbermaid tote lids. If you buy used totes from Goodwill stores make sure you buy ones with lids. If you can't find them with lids, you can always use styrofoam sheets cut to size. You can buy the green styrofoam insulation board from a hardware store and cut it to size your self.  Use a hole saw the size of the net pots you will be using in the tote. I use 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch Net Pots.

Nutrients

The next thing you have to consider is nutrients for your tanks.  There are many sources of nutrients available. I've tried a few different ones. There are organic nutrients. And you can make your own. Learn more about nutrients here.

Along with nutrients you should have to consider water. I do not recommend tap water. I use rain water. I have several 275 gallon IBC totes hooked to the downspouts on my shop. If you use IBC totes make sure you use food grade. 

Grow Lights

The nice thing about hydroponics is you can grow indoors or outdoors. If you have a green house or bright sunroom that's all the light you need. 

If you are going to be growing indoors you will need grow lights.  I started out with Fluorescent tube grow lights. I still have them. NOW I use LED grow lights. LEDs are much lighter, cheaper and cost about half to operate than the fluorescent lights.

Planting Medium

You will need Planting Medium to put in your net pots to start your seeds and grow plants.

There are a couple things you can use. Some people use Rock Wool, some use Coconut Coir. I've tried both. I prefer the Coconut Coir. Coir, also called coconut fibre, is a natural fibre extracted from the outer husk of the coconut.  

Rock Wool Planting Cubes is made of material formed by spinning molten mineral or rock.

Seeds

You'll Need Lots of Seeds

And of course you will need seeds. With hydroponics you use the same seeds you use in an outdoor garden. You can purchase seeds from many sources, even at Walmart. 

One Company I like to use is True Leaf Market. It is an online site. They have all kinds of seeds. Check them out.

What you plant is up to you. You can plant in tanks, large jars, and buckets For larger plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers you will want to use a 5 gallon bucket.
