How can we tell when Yahweh is communicating with us, when it's satan and when it's just our human nature?
The key is this: Yahweh does not expect you to rely on feelings alone. He gives objective ways to discern the source.
Here is a study on the subject followed by a Discernment Chart
1. The First Test: Does it agree with Scripture?
Yahweh will never contradict His own Word.
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” — Isaiah 8:20
✔ If it aligns with Scripture:
- Calls you to obedience
- Honors Yahweh’s commandments
- Produces righteousness
✖ If it contradicts Scripture:
- Encourages compromise
- Twists truth
- Justifies disobedience
👉 That is not Yahweh, no matter how convincing it feels.
2. The Second Test: What fruit does it produce?
“You shall know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16
Yahweh’s voice produces:
- Humility
- Repentance
- Peace (even if the message is correction)
- Clarity toward righteousness
Satan’s influence produces:
- Confusion
- Pride or despair
- Accusation without hope
- Pressure, fear, or urgency to act wrongly
Human nature (the flesh) produces:
- Self-justification
- Comfort-seeking over obedience
- Rationalizing sin
3. The Third Test: Does it lead to obedience or disobedience?
Yahweh’s Spirit always leads toward keeping His commandments.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.” — 1 John 5:3
Yahweh says:
- “Turn from this.”
- “Do what is right.”
- “Obey, even when it costs you.”
Satan says:
- “It’s not that serious.”
- “You’ll be fine.”
- “You deserve this.”
Human nature says:
- “I want this.”
- “I’ll deal with it later.”
4. The Fourth Test: The tone of the message
This one is often overlooked.
Yahweh corrects—but with purpose:
- Conviction → leads to repentance → leads to restoration
Satan accuses:
“The accuser of our brethren…” — Revelation 12:10
- Condemnation without a way out
- “You’re too far gone”
- “There’s no hope for you”
👉 Yahweh corrects you to bring you back
👉 Satan condemns you to push you away
5. The Fifth Test: Does it exalt Yahweh—or self?
Yahweh’s voice leads you to:
- Fear Him (in the right way)
- Honor Him
- Submit to Him
Satan and the flesh lead you to:
- Elevate yourself
- Trust your own reasoning over God’s Word
6. The Pattern of How Yahweh Speaks
Most of the time, Yahweh does NOT speak in audible voices.
He speaks through:
- His Word (primary way)
- Conviction through His Spirit
- Wisdom aligned with Scripture
A Simple Way to Discern (Quick Test)
When a thought comes, ask:
- Is this in line with Scripture?
- Does this lead me toward obedience?
- What fruit will this produce?
- Is this conviction (from Yahweh) or condemnation (from Satan)?
Bottom Line
- Yahweh’s voice = truth + obedience + righteousness
- Satan’s voice = deception + discouragement + rebellion
- Human nature = self + comfort + justification
