Yahweh Gives Us A Choice

Chose Life

In the Bible Yahweh tells us He puts before us life and death. Blessings and Cursing.

He wants us to choose life.

Here's a Bible study built around the central theme that Yahweh sets before every person a choice. It emphasizes the scriptural principle that obedience leads to life and blessing, while rebellion leads to death and its consequences.

CHOOSE LIFE

A Bible Study on Blessings, Curses, Life, and Death

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live."
— Deuteronomy 30:19

INTRODUCTION

From Genesis to Revelation, Yahweh presents mankind with a choice.

It is not merely a choice between two religions or two lifestyles.

It is a choice between:

  • Life or death
  • Blessing or cursing
  • Truth or deception
  • Obedience or rebellion
  • Yahweh's wisdom or man's wisdom

Yahweh never forces anyone to obey Him.

Instead, He lovingly places the choice before us and urges us:

"Choose life.”

1. THE ORIGINAL CHOICE

The very first choice was made in the Garden of Eden.

Adam and Eve had access to:

  • The Tree of Life
  • The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

The choice represented two completely different ways of living.

Tree of Life

Living God's way.

Trusting Yahweh.

Depending on Him.

Receiving His wisdom.

Tree of Knowledge

Deciding for ourselves.

Doing what seems right.

Rejecting Yahweh's authority.

Sadly, mankind has continued choosing the wrong tree ever since.

2. YAHWEH AGAIN OFFERS THE CHOICE

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

"See, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil..."

Yahweh clearly explains the two paths.

Choose Life

  • Love Yahweh.
  • Walk in His ways.
  • Keep His commandments.
  • Obey His voice.
  • Cleave to Him.

The Result

  • Long life
  • Blessings
  • Prosperity
  • Peace
  • Protection
  • Living in the land Yahweh gives

Choose Death

If Israel turned away...

If they worshipped other gods...

If they refused to obey...

Yahweh warned:

"You shall surely perish."

The principle has never changed.

3. LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING

Proverbs 3:5-8

"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding."

This may be one of the greatest choices we make every day.

Do I trust...

My feelings?

Popular opinion?

My own reasoning?

Or...

Yahweh's Word?

When we trust Him:

  • He directs our paths.
  • He removes confusion.
  • He gives wisdom.
  • He brings peace.

Verse 8 says His ways bring:

"Health to your body and strength to your bones."

Obedience blesses every area of life.

4. THERE IS A WAY THAT SEEMS RIGHT

Proverbs 14:12

"There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

This verse explains much of human history.

People sincerely believe they are right.

Governments.

Religious leaders.

Churches.

Families.

Individuals.

But sincerity does not replace truth.

Only Yahweh determines what is right.

5. SEEK YAHWEH FIRST

Matthew 6:33

"Seek first the Kingdom of Yahweh and His righteousness..."

Notice the order.

Not:

Money first.

Career first.

Comfort first.

Entertainment first.

Religion first.

But:

Yahweh first.

When we place Him first...

Everything else begins falling into its proper place.

6. THE BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE

Deuteronomy 28:1-14

Yahweh promised incredible blessings.

Blessed in the city.

Blessed in the field.

Blessed families.

Blessed crops.

Blessed work.

Victory over enemies.

Abundance.

Favor.

Protection.

These blessings ultimately flow from walking in His ways.

7. THE CURSES OF DISOBEDIENCE

Deuteronomy 28:15-68

When people reject Yahweh...

Confusion increases.

Fear increases.

Disease increases.

Violence increases.

Families suffer.

Nations decline.

The curse is not because Yahweh delights in punishment.

Rather, rejecting His ways naturally leads to destruction, and Scripture also describes Yahweh's judgments against persistent rebellion.

Sin always carries consequences.

8. WISDOM BEGINS WITH YAHWEH

Proverbs 9:10

"The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom."

Modern society encourages:

Believe yourself.

Follow your heart.

Do what feels right.

Yahweh says:

Fear Me.

Trust Me.

Follow Me.

Real wisdom begins when we acknowledge that Yahweh knows better than we do.

9. YAHWEH'S COMMANDMENTS BRING LIFE

Psalm 119:165

"Great peace have they which love Your law."

Psalm 19 says His commandments are:

  • Perfect
  • Sure
  • Right
  • Pure
  • Clean
  • True

They are not burdens.

They are instructions for living.

They protect us.

Guide us.

Strengthen us.

Lead us into life.

10. YESHUA IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE

Yeshua never followed His own will.

John 5:30

"I seek not My own will, but the will of the Father."

John 6:38

"I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him that sent Me."

If even the Son submitted Himself completely to the Father...

How much more should we?

11. THE END OF EACH PATH

The Way of Life

Trust Yahweh.

Obey Him.

Walk in His commandments.

Receive His wisdom.

Remain faithful.

The destination:

Resurrection.

Eternal life.

The Kingdom of Yahweh.

The Way of Death

Trust self.

Reject Yahweh.

Ignore His commandments.

Follow the world.

Remain rebellious.

The destination:

Judgment and ultimately death.

CONCLUSION

Every morning we face the same decision.

Will we trust ourselves...

Or trust Yahweh?

Will we follow human wisdom...

Or His Word?

Will we choose temporary pleasure...

Or eternal life?

Yahweh lovingly pleads with His people:

"Choose life."

That choice begins by seeking Him first, trusting Him instead of our own understanding, walking in His commandments, and following the example of Yeshua.

Life is found not merely in existing, but in living according to Yahweh's will. Those who choose His way experience His guidance, His peace, His wisdom, and the hope of the resurrection and everlasting life in His Kingdom.
