Almost every day I see a post saying that the “fallen angels mated with human women and produced giants”.
Books have been written about it.
It is NOT true, NOT biblical.
NOT before the flood, NOT now, NOT ever.
This is particularly clear from the words of Jesus Himself. Here are the key passages:
๐น 1. Matthew 22:30 (also found in Mark 12:25, Luke 20:34–36)
"For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven."
— Matthew 22:30 (KJV)
- Meaning: Jesus says that resurrected humans will be like angels in that they do not marry. This implies that angels do not engage in marriage or reproduction.
- Angels are immortal spirit beings who do not form sexual unions.
๐น 2. Luke 20:34–36
"The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection."
— Luke 20:34–36 (KJV)
- Jesus draws a contrast between mortal humans who marry and angels who do not.
- Angels are described as immortal and non-reproductive.
๐น 3. Hebrews 1:7, 14
"And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire."
— Hebrews 1:7
"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"
— Hebrews 1:14
- Angels are spirit beings, not flesh-and-blood creatures.
- Being spirit, they do not have physical reproductive biology like humans.
๐น 4. Genesis 6:1–4 — Misinterpreted by Some
Some have used Genesis 6:1–4 to suggest that "sons of God" (interpreted by some as angels) had children with human women. However:
- Jesus clearly said angels do not marry or reproduce.
- The phrase "sons of God" refers to righteous human men, descendants of Seth, not angels.
- Angels taking on flesh and reproducing contradicts Christ’s words in Matthew 22 and Luke 20.
๐น Summary of the Scriptural View:
Teaching | Scripture |
Angels do not marry | Matthew 22:30; Luke 20:34–36 |
Angels are spirits | Hebrews 1:7, 14 |
Angels do not reproduce | Shown by Jesus’ teaching |
——————————————
Angels are not sexual beings and do not reproduce, backed by scripture.
๐ Chart: Angels Do Not Reproduce According to the Bible
Biblical Teaching | Scripture Reference | Explanation |
Angels do not marry | Matthew 22:30 Mark 12:25 Luke 20:34–36 | Jesus said resurrected humans are “like the angels” who do not marry. |
Angels do not reproduce | Luke 20:36 | Angels are immortal and cannot die— no need for reproduction. |
Angels are spirits, not flesh | Hebrews 1:7, 14 | Angels are spirits, not physical beings with reproductive biology. |
“Sons of God” ≠ angels (Genesis 6) | Genesis 6:1–4 (context compared with Matthew 22:30) | Misinterpreted—Jesus' words show angels do not take wives or reproduce. |
๐ Summary Points for Teaching or Study
- Angels are immortal spirit beings created by God (Psalm 104:4, Hebrews 1:14).
- Jesus clearly states that angels in heaven do not marry (Matt. 22:30).
- No passage in Scripture shows angels engaging in sexual activity or reproduction.
- Human resurrection will make believers like the angels—non-sexual, immortal (Luke 20:36).
- The idea of angels having children (Genesis 6) contradicts Jesus’ words and can be explained by human lineage.
