Tzitzit: Remember and Obey

WE ARE COMMANDED TO WEAR TZITZITS

Can you look at a person and tell if they obey Yahweh,

Just by looking at them?

WE ARE COMMANDED TO WEAR TZITZITS

Here is a Scripture-first and historically grounded presentation showing that Yahweh commanded His people to wear tzitzit (tassels/fringes) for all generations, and that this practice continued through biblical history—including the time of Yeshua.

I have included a message and a shorter message version for your home Sabbath gathering

1. The Direct Command from Yahweh (Torah)

Numbers 15:37–41

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes (tzitzit) in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:
And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them…
I am the LORD your Yahweh, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your Yahweh: I am the LORD your Yahweh.”

Key points from the text:

  • Command comes directly from YHWH, not man
  • Applies to all Israel
  • Explicit phrase: “throughout their generations”
  • Purpose:
    • Remember Yahweh’s commandments
    • Prevent following the heart and eyes
    • Reinforce obedience and holiness

There is no expiration clause anywhere in Scripture.

2. Reaffirmed in Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy 22:12

“Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.”

This confirms:

  • Tzitzit were part of daily clothing
  • Not ceremonial-only
  • Not limited to priesthood

3. Meaning of Tzitzit (Biblical Function)

The Hebrew word tzitzit (צִיצִת) means:

  • A tassel, fringe, or visible reminder

According to Numbers 15:

  • They are visual teaching tools
  • Designed to call the wearer back to obedience
  • Connected to all the commandments, not just some

The blue thread (tekhelet) points to:

  • Heaven
  • Yahweh’s authority
  • His law coming from above

4. Practiced Faithfully in Biblical History

Time of the Judges & Kings

Israel is repeatedly rebuked not for wearing tzitzit, but for forgetting Yahweh’s law—the very reason tzitzit were given (Judges 2:10–12; Hosea 4:6).

Their presence is assumed, not debated.

5. Worn During the Time of Yeshua

Yeshua Himself Wore Tzitzit

Matthew 9:20–21

“And, behold, a woman… came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.”

The Greek word for “hem” here refers to the fringed edge—the tzitzit.

Matthew 14:36

“And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.”

This fulfills:

  • Malachi 4:2 — “healing in His wings (kanaph = garment edge)”

Yeshua did not abolish tzitzit.
He wore them properly.

Condemning Hypocrisy — Not the Command

Matthew 23:5

“But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments.”

Yeshua did not condemn tzitzit.
He condemned:

  • Pride
  • Showmanship
  • Using obedience as a performance

If tzitzit were abolished or wrong, Yeshua would have said so plainly.

6. Continued After Yeshua’s Resurrection

The apostles continued living as Torah-observant Jews:

Acts 21:20

“Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law.”

No Scripture records:

  • A command to stop wearing tzitzit
  • Yahweh revoking Numbers 15
  • A “new covenant” cancellation of this instruction

7. “For All Generations” — Has Yahweh Changed?

Malachi 3:6

“For I am the LORD, I change not…”

Psalm 111:7–8

“All his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever…”

Isaiah 66:22–23

“…as the new heavens and the new earth… so shall your seed and your name remain.”

If:

  • Yahweh does not change
  • His commandments stand forever
  • Israel’s identity continues

Then the burden of proof lies on anyone claiming tzitzit were abolished—yet no such verse exists.

8. Historical Jewish Practice (Extra-Biblical Confirmation)

  • Dead Sea Scrolls include references to fringed garments
  • First-century Jewish sources (Josephus, Mishnah) assume tzitzit as standard practice
  • Archaeological finds show blue-dyed threads consistent with tekhelet

History confirms Scripture—it does not contradict it.

9. Summary (Plainly Stated)

✔ Yahweh commanded tzitzit
✔ The command is for all generations
✔ It was never revoked
✔ Yeshua wore them
✔ Apostles kept the Law
✔ Purpose remains valid today:

✔COMMANDED FOR ALL THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL, NOT JUST THE TRIBE OF JUDAH

Remember Yahweh’s commandments and walk in obedience

———————————

Below is a full, ready-to-preach message manuscript, written in a clear, Scripture-centered style, suitable for home Sabbath services, and fellowship, or teaching. It stays faithful to the biblical text and avoids rabbinic tradition or church-creed framing.

“Remember and Do: Yahweh’s Command to Wear Tzitzit for All Generations”

Key Text: Numbers 15:37–41

Supporting Texts: Deuteronomy 22:12; Matthew 9:20–21; Matthew 23:5; Malachi 3:6; Psalm 111:7–8

Introduction

Brethren, today we are going to examine a command that is simple, visible, and yet widely ignored in modern religious practice.

It is not a tradition of men.
It is not a rabbinic invention.
It is not something added later.

It is a command that comes directly from Yahweh Himself, spoken to Moses, written in Scripture, and declared to be for all generations.

That command is the wearing of tzitzit—fringes or tassels—on the borders of our garments.

The question before us today is not:

“Is this Jewish?”
but rather:
“Did Yahweh command it—and did He ever revoke it?”

I. Yahweh’s Direct Command

Let us begin where all doctrine must begin—with Scripture.

Numbers 15:37–41 (read aloud)

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations…”

Notice immediately:

  • This command comes from YHWH
  • It is spoken to all Israel
  • And it is explicitly said to be “throughout their generations”

Brethren, Yahweh does not use careless language.
When He says throughout your generations, He means exactly that.

There is no expiration date in the text.

II. The Purpose of Tzitzit

Yahweh does not give commands without reason.

Verse 39 tells us why tzitzit were commanded:

“That ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes…”

Tzitzit serve three divine purposes:

  1. A reminder of Yahweh’s commandments
  2. A guard against self-will and deception
  3. A call to holiness and obedience

This command is not ceremonial fluff—it addresses the human heart.

We forget.
We drift.
We follow our own eyes.

Yahweh gave a visible reminder to pull us back to obedience.

III. Reaffirmed in Deuteronomy

Yahweh repeats the command:

Deuteronomy 22:12

“Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.”

This shows:

  • Tzitzit were part of everyday clothing
  • Not limited to priests
  • Not tied to the Temple
  • Not described as temporary

Yahweh does not repeat commands He intends to discard.

IV. “For All Generations” Means What It Says

Scripture interprets Scripture.

Malachi 3:6

“For I am the LORD, I change not…”

Psalm 111:7–8

“All his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever…”

If Yahweh does not change,
and His commandments stand forever,
then the burden of proof lies on anyone claiming this command ended.

And brethren—no verse exists that abolishes tzitzit.

V. Yeshua Wore Tzitzit

This is critical.

Matthew 9:20–21

“…she came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.”

The word “hem” refers to the fringed edge—the tzitzit.

Matthew 14:36

“…that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.”

Yeshua:

  • Wore tzitzit
  • Kept the command perfectly
  • Never rebuked the practice itself

In fact, this fulfills Malachi 4:2:

“Healing in His wings”
(kanaph—the edge or corner of a garment)

VI. What Yeshua Condemned—and What He Did Not

Some claim Yeshua criticized tzitzit.

Let’s read carefully.

Matthew 23:5

“They make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments.”

Yeshua did not condemn tzitzit.
He condemned:

  • Pride
  • Hypocrisy
  • Using obedience to be seen of men

The problem was motivation, not obedience.

If tzitzit were wrong or abolished, Yeshua would have said so plainly.

He did not.

VII. The Apostles Continued in Obedience

After Yeshua’s resurrection, nothing changed regarding Yahweh’s law.

Acts 21:20

“…many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law.”

There is:

  • No command to stop wearing tzitzit
  • No apostolic decree against it
  • No Scripture stating it ended at the cross

Silence is not abolition.

VIII. Historical Confirmation

History supports Scripture:

  • First-century Jews universally wore fringed garments
  • Archaeology confirms blue-dyed threads
  • No historical record shows believers abandoning tzitzit until centuries later—when Gentile Christianity separated itself from biblical practice

What changed was culture, not Yahweh’s Word.

IX. Why This Matters Today

Brethren, tzitzit are not about fashion.
They are not about identity politics.
They are not about show.

They are about remembering and doing what Yahweh has said.

In a world full of distraction,
Yahweh gave His people a visible anchor.

The question is not:

“What do churches say?”

The question is:

“What has Yahweh said?”

Conclusion

Yahweh commanded tzitzit
Yahweh said it was for all generations
Yahweh never revoked it
Yeshua wore them
The apostles upheld the Law

And the purpose remains:

“That ye may remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them.”

Brethren, obedience has never been popular—but it has always been right.

Let us choose to remember.
Let us choose to obey.
Let us choose to walk as Yeshua walked.

—————————————

Here is a shorter Sermonette version

“Tzitzit: Remember and Obey”

Key Scripture: Numbers 15:37–41

Introduction

Brethren, Yahweh understands something about human nature—we forget.

We get distracted.
We follow our own eyes.
We drift from what we know is right.

So Yahweh, in His mercy, gave His people a visible reminder—a command meant to bring us back to obedience.

That command is the wearing of tzitzit, or tassels, on the borders of our garments.

Yahweh’s Command

Let us read Numbers 15:38–39.

Yahweh says this command is “throughout their generations.”
There is no limitation placed on it.
There is no verse that revokes it.

The purpose is clear:

“That ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them.”

Tzitzit are not decoration.
They are instruction.

Reaffirmed in the Law

Yahweh repeats the command in Deuteronomy 22:12, showing it was part of daily life—not temple ritual, not priestly clothing.

Yahweh does not repeat commands He intends to abolish.

Yeshua Wore Tzitzit

In Matthew 9:20, the woman touched the hem of Yeshua’s garment—the fringed edge.

Yeshua did not set aside this command.
He fulfilled it perfectly.

When Yeshua condemned religious leaders, He did not condemn tzitzit—He condemned hypocrisy and pride (Matthew 23:5).

Obedience was never the problem.
Motivation was.

For All Generations

Yahweh says plainly:

  • Malachi 3:6 — “I change not”
  • Psalm 111:7–8 — His commandments stand forever

If Yahweh does not change, and the command was given for all generations, then it still stands today.

Why This Matters

Tzitzit remind us:

  • To remember Yahweh’s commandments
  • To resist following our own hearts
  • To walk in holiness

In a world pulling us in every direction, Yahweh gave us a simple anchor.

Conclusion

Brethren, tzitzit are not about tradition or appearance.
They are about remembering and doing what
Yahweh has said.

Let us walk as Yeshua walked.
Let us remember His commandments.
And let us choose obedience—every day.

“That ye may remember, and do all my commandments.”
(Numbers 15:39)

FREAKED OUT BY "MINISTER"

Someone deliberately rolling their eyes back to show only the whites, especially during a spiritual visit—is not normal behavior in any legitimate ministerial context. Let's break this down carefully from both spiritual and practical perspectives.

A Sign of Demon Possession?
Someone posted this picture of the demon Culpepper on the Banned By HWA website.
It seems others have encountered this demon.
------

How would you feel if a "minister" looked at you like this,
TWICE.
I was told by another minister (Mr. Marvin Campbell)
that this is,
"A SIGN OF DEMON POSSESSION"

Philadelphia Church of God minister FREAKED ME OUT

I was a member of the Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) of Edmond Ok.

One day two ministers from the church came to visit me. Marvin Campbell was the older and Calvin Culpepper the younger. Seems they wanted make me what they called the “contact person” in our little local congregation but they were concerned that I had missed a few services. I explained that I had been ill and was unable to attend.

Mr Campbell was the regional director of the church Mr. Culpepper was his aid.

During the visit Mr. Culpepper leaned forward and looked at me with his eyes rolled back in his head showing the full whites of his eyes.

This really freaked me out. I had never seen anything like that outside of a Hollywood movie.

He did it TWICE.

I told Mr. Campbell about it later. He said it was a sign of “demon possession”

I found out from another member of the church that Mr. Culpepper did the same thing to him during a visit.

If Culpepper did this to you or someone you know, please let me know. You can use the "Contact Me" form on the right column.

👻 Spiritual or Supernatural Interpretations

Possession or Demonic Influence (in some beliefs):

    • In some religious or spiritual circles, eye-rolling showing only whites is seen as a possible sign of demonic possession or influence—especially if accompanied by other unusual behavior (uncontrollable movements, voice changes, hostility to sacred things).

Has anyone else experienced this? What would you call it?

Here is something I found doing a search about the phenomena

I think it was demon possession.

Someone deliberately rolling their eyes back to show only the whites, especially during a spiritual visit—is not normal behavior in any legitimate ministerial context. Let's break this down carefully from both spiritual and practical perspectives.

🔍 What Could Be Happening?

1. Intentional Intimidation or Spiritual Manipulation

  • The fact that this younger man did it twice to you, and also to another church member, suggests it wasn’t a random twitch or health issue—it seems deliberate.
  • It could be a form of psychological intimidation, meant to unsettle or control people through fear or confusion.
  • In cult-like or abusive religious settings, such tactics are sometimes used to exert spiritual dominance.

2. Possibly a Disturbing Spiritual Manifestation

  • Your older minister said it's a sign of demon possession—that’s not something most ministers say lightly.
  • Biblically and historically, eye-rolling or revealing only the whites of the eyes has sometimes been associated with unclean spirits or trance-like states that are not of God.
  • It is especially telling that he did it during a supposedly godly appointment, like appointing you as a leader.

3. A Deceptive or Corrupted Influence

  • If this younger man is operating in ministry, but displaying something unnatural and spiritually oppressive, it raises serious concerns about his true alignment—whether he’s influenced by dark spiritual forces or simply acting with deceitful intent.

⚠️ What You Might Consider Doing

  • Avoid being alone with that man again. His behavior was intrusive and disturbing. Trust your instincts.
  • Pray for discernment and protection. You’re not overreacting—God gives His people wisdom and spiritual sensitivity for a reason.
  • Document what happened—even privately. It may be part of a bigger pattern.
  • Talk to trusted believers who are spiritually grounded, not just members who brush things off.
  • If your church leadership tolerates or protects such behavior, you may need to reassess your spiritual covering.

🙏 You're Not Crazy—You're Being Spiritually Alert

God warns His people to “test the spirits” (1 John 4:1), and to beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing (Matthew 7:15). If what you saw frightened you, and others have seen it too, you are not imagining it. Something is spiritually off—and it’s okay to say so.

WE WILL BE GOD

WE WILL BE GOD

Scripture shows that God is reproducing Himself in man, that believers will be born into His very family, and share His nature as glorified sons and daughters.

Let’s walk through it step by step.

See my post, ARE YOU BORN AGAIN for more information

1. Man was created in God’s image for a purpose

  • Genesis 1:26–27
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”
From the beginning, mankind was made in God’s likeness—not in appearance only, but with the capacity to share His nature and character.
  • Psalm 82:6
“I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.”
This is not saying men are gods now, but that God’s plan is to make mankind His divine children.

2. We are begotten now as God’s children—not yet born

  • John 1:12–13
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born [better: begotten], not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Believers are begotten children of God now—awaiting a future birth into His family.
  • 1 John 3:1–2
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
We are God’s children now in a spiritual embryo state, but will be glorified to be like Him at Christ’s return.

3. God is reproducing His kind

  • John 3:3, 6
“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God… That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
We are first begotten by God’s Spirit, and at the resurrection will be born into His family—spirit beings as He is.
  • Romans 8:14–17, 29
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God… The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ… For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
Christ is the firstborn Son, and many brethren (us) will follow—sharing His glory and family relationship with the Father.

4. We will be glorified as God is

  • Philippians 3:20–21
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body…”
Our physical bodies will be transformed to be like Christ’s glorified, divine body.
  • 2 Peter 1:4
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature…”
God is sharing His own divine nature with us—we are not just saved, but changed into His kind.
  • Revelation 21:7
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
This is a literal family relationship—God reproducing Himself.

✅ Summary:
The Bible shows a clear progression:

  1. Man was created in God’s image.
  2. Through Christ, we are begotten by God’s Spirit as His children.
  3. At the resurrection, we will be born of the Spirit into His family.
  4. We will be glorified, immortal spirit beings—like God is God.

This is why Christ is called the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29). God is in the process of reproducing Himself in man.

————————————

Let’s look at how some of the early Church writers—within about the first two centuries after the apostles—understood this teaching. You’ll see they echoed the same truth Scripture reveals: that salvation means becoming part of the God family and sharing His nature.

1. Irenaeus (c. 130–202 AD) – Disciple of Polycarp, who was taught by John

“If the Word has been made man, it is so that men may be made gods.”
— Against Heresies, Book 5, Preface

Here, Irenaeus is saying that the Son of God became human in order that humans could become sons of God—sharing in His nature.

2. Athanasius (c. 296–373 AD) – Defending the Incarnation

“For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.”
— On the Incarnation, 54:3

This is a very direct statement: Christ took on humanity so we could take on divinity.

3. Clement of Alexandria (c. 150–215 AD)

“The Word of God became man, that thou mayest learn from man how man may become God.”
— Exhortation to the Heathen, ch. 1

He points to the Word (Christ) becoming human as the path for mankind to become divine.

4. Justin Martyr (c. 100–165 AD)

“Men are deemed worthy of becoming gods, and of having power to become sons of the highest.”
— Dialogue with Trypho, ch. 124

Justin ties this directly to the scriptural promise of sonship and godhood.

5. Hippolytus of Rome (c. 170–235 AD)

“If, therefore, man has become immortal, he will also be God… For God has adopted him as His son.”
— Refutation of All Heresies, Book 10

Hippolytus shows the process clearly: adoption, immortality, then divinity.

🔑 Summary:

  • The early Church understood and taught that salvation is more than forgiveness—it is entering the divine family of God.
  • They often expressed it in shorthand as “becoming God” or “made gods,” but always in the sense of children in God’s family, not rival gods.
  • This harmonizes perfectly with John 10:34–36, where Jesus quotes Psalm 82: “I said, Ye are gods”—and applies it to those who receive the Word of God.

———————————————

Here’s a study sheet you can use or share. It puts Scripture on one side and early Church writings on the other, showing the same truth: God is reproducing Himself in mankind—we are begotten now, but will be born into His Family as divine sons and daughters.
