[Verse 1]
At Passover, the Lamb was given,
Yeshua bore the price of sin.
Unleavened Bread calls us to turn,
To leave the old ways we have been in.

[Verse 2]
At Pentecost, the firstfruits gather,
Yahweh calls His people now.
Then trumpets sound—the King is coming,
The dead will rise at His command.

[Chorus]
Seven appointed times, one promise,
From the Lamb to life made new.
Yahweh shows the way before us,
Every season tells what He will do.
Nothing missing, nothing out of order—
His plan is complete.

[Verse 3]
Atonement speaks of sin removed,
And Satan’s hold brought to an end.
At Tabernacles, Yeshua reigns,
His Kingdom fills the earth again.

[Bridge]
The Last Great Day brings resurrection,
Judgment before the throne of Yah.
His mercy and His justice stand;
The Holy Days reveal His plan.

[Chorus]
Seven appointed times, one promise,
From the Lamb to life made new.
Yahweh shows the way before us,
Every season tells what He will do.
Nothing missing, nothing out of order—
His plan is complete.

[Outro]
Not eggs and rabbits, not Christmas lights—
We’ll remember Yahweh’s appointed times.
From Passover to the Last Great Day,
His plan is complete.

[Verse 1]
Around a table, in a home,
The early believers were not alone.
They shared the bread, they shared the Word,
And every willing voice was heard.

[Pre-Chorus]
Yeshua said, “It shall not be
Like rulers claiming authority.”
The greatest kneels to serve the least;
In humble love, His people meet.

[Chorus]
All of you are brethren,
And Yeshua is our Head.
We gather in His name and walk
The path that He has led.
No one stands above the flock;
Together we will stand.
All of you are brethren,
Held in Yahweh’s hand.

[Verse 2]
Let elders shepherd side by side,
With open hearts and without pride.
Let those who teach and those who give
Help all the body grow and live.

[Pre-Chorus]
No lordship over faith is ours,
No throne built from a title’s power.
The gifts that Yahweh gives to each
Are meant to serve, to heal, to teach.

[Chorus]
All of you are brethren,
And Yeshua is our Head.
We gather in His name and walk
The path that He has led.
No one stands above the flock;
Together we will stand.
All of you are brethren,
Held in Yahweh’s hand.

[Bridge]
Keep us faithful to Your way,
In how we serve and what we say.
From home to home, let love be known;
Yeshua reigns, and He alone.

[Final Chorus]
All of you are brethren,
And Yeshua is our Head.
We gather in His name and walk
The path that He has led.
With humble hearts and willing hands,
Together we will stand.
All of you are brethren,
Held in Yahweh’s hand.

Is PCG Starting to Erase Gerald Flurry Even Before He Dies?

When Herbert W. Armstrong died in 1986, the Worldwide Church of God did not immediately torch the empire. It took a few careful years of "clarifications," "updates," and "new understandings" before the leadership finished sanding his name off the furniture. By the time they were done, the church no longer resembled the organization he built. Members who noticed too early were the problem. Members who noticed too late were told they were wrong and needed to believe the new thing. Classic.

Remember: all of that happened after he was safely in the ground.

The Philadelphia Church of God appears to have studied that playbook and decided the original version was inefficient. Why wait for the funeral when you can start the renovation while the man is still sitting in the chair?

Gerald Flurry spent decades insisting he was not merely another minister recycling Armstrong's leftovers. He was "That Prophet." He was the "King of Israel." He received new revelation. He received new understandings. He received titles the way some people collect COG literature. The work was not just "continuing" Herbert Armstrong. It was advancing. God was speaking now, through him. That was the entire sales pitch. That is why people stayed. That is why families were cut off. That is why the no-contact policy existed. That is why the books kept coming.

And now, according to a letter published by the Exit and Support Network, the big closing argument of King Gerry's reign is... HWA WAS RIGHT?

It's like PCG is erasing Gerald Flurry.

September 16, 2026

With the PCG having "that prophet" and the "king of Israel" all these years, all they can come up with at the end of King Gerry's reign is HWA WAS RIGHT?

"King Gerry" must feel like a fool. Every "new understanding," every "prophecy," every "revelation from God" has been for nothing. It's like they are erasing him and his work.

The current membership of the Philadelphia Church of God is estimated [since 2025] to be around 2,300 people worldwide, with roughly 1,400 in the United States.-[name withheld]

That is a special kind of comedy. You spend thirty-plus years telling people that God raised you up as the next indispensable office after Elijah, you write booklet after booklet of fresh light, you rearrange prophecy around your own titles, you demand standing ovations for "the throne," and the organization's late-stage marketing slogan is a return to the previous guy. The one who, inconveniently, said he was not a prophet in the sense Flurry claimed to be.

This is not happening in a vacuum. Stephen Flurry has been moving into the frame for years: Key of David, Trumpet Daily, campaigns, the public face of the work. Recent reports describe language on the program being adjusted so that Gerald's name recedes and the son's presence expands. That is not subtle succession planning. That is interior decorating while the current occupant is still in the living room. Lil' Stevie is making his mark. Total control now prevents other ambitious men from imagining they might inherit the keys. The heir who grows up inside the palace does not need a civil war. He only needs the old king's revelations to become optional.

The gaslighting potential here is exquisite, even by Church of God standards. WCG members at least had the courtesy of a dead founder before the rewrite. PCG members get to watch the living founder's unique catalog quietly demoted while they are still expected to treat yesterday's "new truth" as yesterday's new truth. Do not notice the shift. Do not compare the old sermons to the new emphasis. Do not ask what all those extra titles were for if the finale is a nostalgia campaign for Herbert Armstrong. If you notice, you have a government problem.

Membership estimates from people watching the group from the outside hover around 2,300 worldwide. Official claims have always been more generous. Either way, this is not a movement so large that it can afford to look confused about which man God is currently using. A shrinking high-demand group that spent a generation insisting its leader was uniquely commissioned now appears to be backing slowly toward the safer brand: the dead apostle whose copyrights they fought a court case to own.

The irony writes itself. Flurry founded PCG because he said the WCG was erasing Armstrong. The organization that exists to prevent that kind of erasure now looks, to at least some of its own former members, like it is practicing a live-action version on its own founder. Not because the doctrines suddenly became embarrassing in public. Because the succession needs a cleaner story. "HWA was right" is a simpler product than "and also all of these later revelations that only one man received."

King Gerry must feel like a fool, the letter says. That may be the kindest possible reading. The less kind reading is that the people around him have already decided which parts of the catalog are transferable and which parts were just the old man's personal branding. The transferable part is Armstrong. The disposable part is everything that made Flurry indispensable.

WCG waited until the casket was closed. PCG is apparently trying the same renovation with the lights still on. Members who spent years defending every new title, every new prophecy, every new understanding now get to discover that the safest slogan left in the building is the name of the man who died in 1986.

THE WORKS OF SATAN THE DEVIL

After the destruction of the Worldwide Church of God, Incorporated by the Devil's APOSTATE Joseph W. Tkach, Sr., the founding of the Philadelphia Church of Fraud with its FALSE PROPHET Gerald R. Flurry ranks as the next most amazing thing that Satan the Devil has done lately.

Plagiarizing

The PCG was a satanic fraud from the very beginning, having being built upon the plagiarized and revised writings of Jules Dervaes, called The Letter To Laodicea, which Jules sent to about 700 Worldwide Church of God ministers, including Gerald Flurry. Gerald and his buddy John Amos went over it and turned it into a little book that they called Malachi's Message, which Gerald now claims was delivered by a mighty angel and is the little scroll mentioned in the book of Revelation. Only false prophets like Gerald Flurry have to steal their message from someone else, and then deny that anyone else had previously known anything about it.

Gospel Suppressing

Herbert W. Armstrong had taught that the true purpose, and the very purpose, of the church was to carry out the “Great Commission” to preach the gospel (meaning “good news”) of the coming kingdom of God to the whole world for a witness to all nations before the end of this age would come. One of the first things that Gerald Flurry did was claim that his PCG had been given a “new commission” to “warn the Laodiceans.” In actual practice this meant refusing to have anything to do with any Worldwide Church of God people who would not go along with Gerald Flurry and help him to stop the preaching of the gospel. No talking to the WCG people was allowed, but continual bad-mouthing of them was encouraged. Immediately doing away with Herbert W. Armstrong's main teaching while claiming to be faithfully holding fast to everything that HWA had taught was a rather big lie for little Gerald. Gerald Flurry had previously nit-picked about other people making relatively minor changes to some of HWA's smaller teachings.

Family Wrecking

In his old age, Herbert W. Armstrong became concerned about turning the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, as mentioned in the real book of Malachi 4:5-6. So, of course, Gerald Flurry came up with a “No Contact” policy to break up marriages, families, relatives, and friends. The idea was to keep PCG members away from anyone who might know the old Worldwide Church of God teachings and could warn them about Gerald Flurry's massive doctrinal changes. Also, the fake PCG “ministry” enjoys being stupid and cruel in God's name. PCG members are expected to play along with old sex perverts and predators in their midst who pretend to be part of the PCG “family,” but are supposed to shun their real family members, relatives, and friends who truly care about them. This is the exact opposite of what the Bible actually teaches. It is also the exact opposite of what anyone with any brains or decency would do.

Identity Stealing

Gerald Flurry was so fixated on wanting to be a prophet that he did not even seem to realize for about twenty years that Herbert W. Armstrong had taught that the church was led by an apostle, not by a prophet. Gerald finally woke up one day and took that title too, in addition to dozens of other titles and offices that he took for himself. Gerald Flurry deleted from HWA's last book called Mystery of the Ages sentences that would contradict Gerald's doctrinal changes and lies. In his continual quest to compensate for his short stature, Gerald Flurry soon began to teach that he, rather than Jesus, was what Gerald called “That Prophet” of Deuteronomy 18:18-19 that everyone was suppose to listen to or else God will call them to account. This was the Identity Theft of the Ages. Instead of listening to everything that Jesus said, PCG members now listen to everything said by one of the false prophets that Jesus warned in his actual Sermon On The Mount to beware of because they would come and deceive many.

Irish Dancing

People might wonder how and why the PCG got so involved with Irish dancing, and how that became the PCG cult's main “Work.” Irish dancing is what the PCG's auditorium and the PCG's jet airplane are used for. It sure looks like the 50 visions that Gerald Flurry claims to have had were not worth very much. Satan and the demons do have a really twisted sense of humor when they are playing with their PCG members.

The Short Work

At the start of his scam, over 35 years ago, Gerald Flurry said that the PCG was prophesied to do a short work. Some people might have thought that they could stand it for a few years. Satan and his false prophet Gerald Flurry soon made short work of the PCG members who mistakenly thought that they had resisted the Great Apostasy of January 1995 and who naively thought that they were standing up for the truth. Now they know that they have to keep their mouths shut and believe everything that Gerald Flurry tells them.

[Verse 1]
I brought You words I can’t take back,
And roads I wish I’d never walked.
I named the wrong that I had done;
I turned to You with all my heart.

[Pre-Chorus]
Where I have wounded, help me mend.
Where I have failed, teach me again.

[Chorus]
Yahweh forgives when we repent,
His mercy calls us home again.
He hears the heart that turns to Him;
He washes clean and lets us begin.
I’ll lay this burden at His feet—
Yahweh forgives when we repent.

[Verse 2]
Like Peter, I have known my fear;
Like David, I have known my shame.
But You have heard my honest prayer
And called me forward in Your ways.

[Pre-Chorus]
I cannot change what’s come before,
But I can follow You once more.

[Chorus]
Yahweh forgives when we repent,
His mercy calls us home again.
He hears the heart that turns to Him;
He washes clean and lets us begin.
I’ll lay this burden at His feet—
Yahweh forgives when we repent.

[Bridge]
Create in me a clean heart, Yahweh.
Help me make right what I can today.
When guilt returns, remind my soul:
Your mercy never fails.

[Final Chorus]
Yahweh forgives when we repent,
His mercy calls us home again.
I’ll turn to Him and walk His way;
I need not carry yesterday.
I’ll lay this burden at His feet—
Yahweh forgives when we repent.

[Outro]
Your mercy never fails.
Your mercy never fails.

Yahweh Forgives When We Repent

Yahweh Forgives When We Repent

Yahweh Forgives When We Repent

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” —1 John 1:9

Some regrets concern sin. Others concern decisions we would make differently with what we know now. Scripture does not call every imperfect choice a sin, but it does promise forgiveness to those who turn to Yahweh. We can bring both our sins and our sorrows to Him.

What does repentance mean?

Repentance is more than feeling bad. It means acknowledging our sin, turning toward Yahweh, and seeking to live differently (Acts 3:19; Proverbs 28:13). Forgiveness is Yahweh’s gift; we do not earn it by punishing ourselves long enough.

🕎 Your past mistakes

David committed grievous sins, yet when he acknowledged them, he could say, “You forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:5). Your past matters, but it does not put you beyond Yahweh’s mercy.

🕎 The wrong choices you regret

The prodigal son came home knowing he had wasted what his father gave him. His father received him with compassion (Luke 15:17–24). If a choice involved sin, repent of it. If it was simply unwise, learn from it. Either way, you can turn toward Yahweh today.

🕎 Words you wish you could take back

Words can wound deeply (Proverbs 12:18). If yours hurt someone, acknowledge it and apologize where you can. Yahweh can forgive sinful speech, and He can teach you to speak with greater care (Psalm 141:3; 1 John 1:9).

🕎 Times you hurt someone

Yahweh’s forgiveness does not erase another person’s pain or guarantee that they will trust you again immediately. Yeshua taught us to seek reconciliation when we have wronged someone (Matthew 5:23–24). Make amends where possible, while trusting Yahweh with what you cannot repair alone.

🕎 Moments you ignored Yahweh

The call to return is itself an expression of mercy: “Return to Me, and I will return to you” (Malachi 3:7). You do not have to keep walking away because you walked away before.

🕎 Your failures and shortcomings

Peter denied Yeshua three times. After the resurrection, Yeshua spoke with him and entrusted him with work to do (Luke 22:54–62; John 21:15–17). Failure did not have to be the end of Peter’s story, and it need not be the end of yours.

🕎 Sins you have sincerely confessed

Yahweh does not ask you to confess sincerely and then wonder forever whether He heard. “He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9). When guilt returns, answer it with His promise rather than repeatedly putting yourself on trial.

🕎 Times you doubted His plan

A father once cried to Yeshua, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). He brought his struggle into the open. When doubt leads you to distrust or disobey Yahweh, confess that honestly. You can ask Him for help with questions and fear, too.

🕎 The things you wish you had done differently

You may be able to correct a wrong, seek someone’s forgiveness, or make a better choice now. You cannot live yesterday again. Paul described moving forward rather than remaining fixed on what was behind him (Philippians 3:13–14). Learn what you can, then take the next faithful step.

🕎 The person you used to be

Paul reminded believers of what some of them had once been, then said, “But you were washed” (1 Corinthians 6:11). Repentance does not mean pretending your former life never happened. It means that your former life need not define who you are becoming.

Put down the burden

David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O Elohim” (Psalm 51:10). That is a prayer we can make today. Confess what needs confessing. Make right what you can. Accept Yahweh’s mercy, and keep walking in His ways.

If you have truly repented, do not keep carrying guilt as though Yahweh refused to forgive you. His mercy gives you room to begin again.

HIS MERCY NEVER FAILS

Seven Promises to Remember

I am forgiven.
I am free.
I have hope.
I am gifted.
I have a purpose.
I am valuable.
I am blessed.

Scripture gives each statement meaning. They are invitations to trust Yahweh and follow Yeshua, even when our feelings or circumstances tell us otherwise.

1. I am forgiven

Read: Psalm 103:8–12; Isaiah 1:18; Acts 10:43; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:9.

David says Yahweh removes the sins of those who fear Him “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). Through Yeshua, forgiveness is offered to those who believe in Him (Acts 10:43). John calls us to confess our sins, trusting Yahweh to forgive and cleanse us (1 John 1:9).

Forgiveness does not mean our choices never mattered. It means our past need not keep us from returning to Yahweh. We can confess what we have done, turn from it, and receive His mercy.

Ask yourself: Is there something I have confessed to Yahweh but still refuse to believe He can forgive?

2. I am free

Read: John 8:31–36; Romans 6:6–8; Galatians 5:1, 13; 1 Peter 2:16.

Yeshua speaks of freedom from slavery to sin: “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Paul says freedom is a call to serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13). Peter likewise warns against using freedom as a cover for wrongdoing.

This promise is deeper than being able to do whatever we want. In Yeshua, we can leave behind the rule of sin and learn to live faithfully.

Ask yourself: What habit, fear, or guilt am I allowing to act like my master?

3. I have hope

Read: Lamentations 3:21–26; Romans 5:1–5; Hebrews 10:23; 1 Peter 1:3–4.

Lamentations speaks of Yahweh’s mercies in the middle of grief. Paul acknowledges suffering, yet says hope grows as Yahweh sustains His people through it (Romans 5:3–5). Peter points to the resurrection of Yeshua as the foundation of a living hope (1 Peter 1:3).

Hope is not a promise that every painful situation will change today. It is confidence that Yahweh remains faithful and that death and sorrow will not have the final word.

Ask yourself: Which promise of Yahweh can I hold onto while I wait?

4. I am gifted

Read: Romans 12:4–8; 1 Corinthians 12:4–27; James 1:17; 1 Peter 4:10.

Paul describes different gifts among believers, all needed within one body. Peter tells each person to use what they have received to serve others (1 Peter 4:10). A gift may be teaching or encouragement; it may also be giving, helping, or showing mercy.

You do not need someone else’s abilities to be useful. Yahweh can use what He has placed in your hands.

Ask yourself: What can I do this week to encourage or help one person?

5. I have a purpose

Read: Proverbs 16:9; John 15:16; Romans 8:28–29; Ephesians 2:8–10.

Ephesians says we are saved by grace and created in Yeshua for good works (Ephesians 2:8–10). Yeshua calls His disciples to bear lasting fruit (John 15:16). Our purpose includes becoming faithful people who love, obey, and serve.

Jeremiah 29:11, cited in the image, was spoken to people facing exile. Its first promise was to that community; it should not be read as a guarantee that every individual plan will succeed. It does show Yahweh’s faithfulness during a long and difficult wait.

Ask yourself: What faithful action is before me today, even if I cannot yet see the whole path?

6. I am valuable

Read: Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 8:4–6; Psalm 139:13–15; John 3:16.

Human worth begins with Yahweh, who made people in His image (Genesis 1:26–27). The psalmist marvels that Yahweh cares for us (Psalm 8:4). John 3:16 shows the depth of His love in giving His Son.

Your value does not disappear with age, illness, loneliness, a mistake, or someone else’s rejection. You remain a person Yahweh made and sees.

Ask yourself: Whose judgment have I allowed to speak louder than Yahweh’s care for me?

7. I am blessed

Read: Psalm 32:1–2; Psalm 144:15; Galatians 3:8–9; Ephesians 1:3; Romans 10:12–13.

Psalm 32 calls the forgiven person blessed. Ephesians 1:3 speaks of spiritual blessings in Yeshua. These passages do not promise a life without loss or hardship. They point to the blessing of belonging to Yahweh and receiving His mercy.

Blessing may be present even on a day when life feels difficult. We can thank Yahweh for His faithfulness while honestly bringing Him our needs.

Ask yourself: What blessing can I recognize today without pretending that my struggles are gone?

Bringing the seven together

These statements are strongest when we keep their scriptural meaning:

Because of Yahweh’s mercy, I can seek forgiveness. Through Yeshua, I can walk in freedom. Because He raised Yeshua, I have hope. He has given me ways to serve. He calls me to live faithfully. He made me with worth. And I can thank Him for blessings even in hard seasons.

Prayer: Yahweh, help me receive Your forgiveness, walk in the freedom Yeshua gives, and hold fast to the hope of the resurrection. Show me how to use my gifts, serve with purpose, remember the value You give to every person, and recognize Your blessings. Amen.

[Verse 1]
When my past comes calling,
And I feel the weight of shame,
Yahweh, You are merciful;
You call me back again.
Through Yeshua I am forgiven,
No longer bound by sin.
You give me strength to follow You
And walk in freedom again.

I am forgiven, I am free,
I have a living hope in Yeshua’s victory.
I am gifted, I have purpose,
I am valuable to You.
I am blessed by Your mercy;

[Verse 2]
When I cannot see tomorrow,
You are faithful while I wait.
You can use the gifts You’ve given
To help me serve today.
You made me in Your image;
You know me and You care.
Even through the hardest seasons,
Your mercy meets me there.

I am forgiven, I am free,
I have a living hope in Yeshua’s victory.
I am gifted, I have purpose,
I am valuable to You.
I am blessed by Your mercy;
Yahweh, Your word is true.

[Bridge]
My hope rests in the resurrection,
When You make all things new.
Until that day, I’ll trust Your promise
And keep walking with You.

[Final Chorus]
I am forgiven, I am free,
I have a living hope in Yeshua’s victory.
I am gifted, I have purpose,
I am valuable to You.
I am blessed by Your mercy;
Yahweh, Your word is true.

Not Food, but People (song)

Not Food, but People

Not Food, but People (song)

[Verse 1]
Before the flood in Noah’s day,
The clean and unclean were known;
Yahweh showed what man could eat,
His wisdom clearly shown.
Some were created to be food,
Some had another part;
His instructions were given in love,
For those who seek His heart.

[Chorus]
It was not food, but people,
That Peter’s vision showed;
From every tribe and nation,
Yahweh calls us to His fold.
“Call no man common or unclean,”
The meaning Peter knew;
The animals were symbols—
Yahweh’s Word remains true.

[Verse 2]
Peter saw the lowered sheet
And heard the words, “Arise”;
But he had never eaten unclean—
Not once within his life.
While Peter wondered what it meant,
The Gentile servants came;
Then Yahweh sent him to their home
To proclaim Yeshua’s name.

[Chorus]
It was not food, but people,
That Peter’s vision showed;
From every tribe and nation,
Yahweh calls us to His fold.
“Call no man common or unclean,”
The meaning Peter knew;
The animals were symbols—
Yahweh’s Word remains true.

[Bridge]
Yahweh shows no partiality;
All nations may draw near.
Those who turn and follow Him
Are welcomed without fear.
The Spirit fell upon them,
And everyone could see:
Gentiles, too, were called to life—
Forgiven and made clean.

[Final Chorus]
It was not food, but people,
That Peter’s vision showed;
From every tribe and nation,
Yahweh calls us to His fold.
“Call no man common or unclean”—
Acts ten makes it clear:
The vision welcomed people;
Yahweh’s food laws did not disappear.

[Outro]
Call no man common or unclean;
Let Yahweh’s truth be heard.
His welcome reaches every nation,
And faithful stands His Word.

Clean and Unclean Animals

Clean and Unclean Animals

Scripture shows that Yahweh created clean animals for food and unclean animals that man is not to eat. This study explains Yahweh’s dietary instructions.

Clean and Unclean Animals

Acts 10 Is About People, Not Permission to Eat Unclean Animals

Many people have been taught that Yahweh abolished the distinction between clean and unclean animals in Peter’s vision in Acts 10. But Peter himself explains the meaning of the vision:

“Yahweh has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
—Acts 10:28

Peter did not say, “Yahweh has shown me that every animal is now food.” The vision concerned the acceptance of Gentile believers—not a change in Yahweh’s dietary instructions.

1. Yahweh Created Every Animal, but Not Every Animal Was Created as Food

Everything Yahweh created has a purpose. Some animals provide food, while others serve as scavengers, predators, cleaners, and vital parts of the natural world.

An animal can be “good” for the purpose Yahweh gave it without being suitable for human consumption.

Poisonous plants are part of creation, but that does not make them food. Likewise, the fact that Yahweh created pigs, shellfish, vultures, and other creatures does not mean He intended people to eat them.

Yahweh determines what qualifies as food:

“These are the animals which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth.”
—Leviticus 11:2

This language is important. Yahweh did not say that every creature was food. He identified which creatures people could eat.

2. Clean and Unclean Animals Were Known Before Moses

Some claim the distinction between clean and unclean animals began with the covenant at Mount Sinai. However, Noah knew this distinction centuries before Moses was born.

Before the Flood, Yahweh commanded Noah:

“You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female.”
—Genesis 7:2

After the Flood, Noah offered clean animals in sacrifice:

“Then Noah built an altar to Yahweh, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.”
—Genesis 8:20

Therefore, clean and unclean categories did not originate with Moses. Noah already understood them.

3. Permission to Eat Meat Did Not Make Every Animal Food

After the Flood, Yahweh told Noah:

“Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.”
—Genesis 9:3

Some interpret this to mean Noah could eat absolutely every creature. But “as the green herbs” points back to the earlier instructions concerning plants:

“I have given you every herb that yields seed…and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”
—Genesis 1:29

Yahweh did not mean that every plant was safe to eat. Many plants are poisonous. He identified the kinds of vegetation provided as food.

Likewise, Genesis 9 did not erase the distinction Yahweh had just made between clean and unclean animals. Noah already knew which animals were clean. Yahweh was permitting animal flesh to be eaten within the boundaries He had established.

4. Yahweh Identified the Land Animals That Are Food

A clean land animal must meet both of these requirements:

  1. It divides the hoof.
  2. It chews the cud.

“Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud—that you may eat.”
—Leviticus 11:3

Clean land animals include cattle, sheep, goats, and deer.

An animal possessing only one of these characteristics is unclean. Yahweh specifically names the camel, rock hyrax, hare, and pig.

Concerning the pig, He says:

“And the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Their flesh you shall not eat.”
—Leviticus 11:7–8

Although pork is commonly eaten today, Scripture specifically identifies the pig as unclean.

5. Yahweh Identified the Water Creatures That Are Food

Clean water creatures must have both fins and scales:

“These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat.”
—Leviticus 11:9

Fish with fins and scales are clean. Creatures without them are unclean.

This excludes such creatures as:

  • Shrimp
  • Crab
  • Lobster
  • Oysters
  • Clams
  • Mussels
  • Catfish
  • Eels

Yahweh says of creatures without fins and scales:

“They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh.”
—Leviticus 11:11

6. Yahweh Also Distinguished Between Clean and Unclean Birds

Leviticus 11:13–19 and Deuteronomy 14:11–20 identify forbidden birds. Many of them are birds of prey or scavengers.

Common clean birds include chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, quail, and doves. Unclean birds include eagles, vultures, ravens, hawks, owls, and similar creatures.

Once again, Yahweh’s instructions correspond with the different purposes creatures fulfill in the natural world.

7. Yahweh Called These Instructions a Matter of Holiness

The dietary instructions were not merely cultural customs invented by Israel. Yahweh connected them with holiness and separation.

“For I am Yahweh your Elohim. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy.”
—Leviticus 11:44

He continued:

“You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean, and you shall not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird.”
—Leviticus 20:25

Yahweh taught His people to distinguish between what He had approved and what He had forbidden.

8. Isaiah Shows the Distinction Continuing Into the Future

The prophets continued to condemn eating unclean animals. Isaiah describes people who rebel against Yahweh:

“Who eat swine’s flesh, and the broth of abominable things is in their vessels.”
—Isaiah 65:4

Isaiah also speaks of the time of Yahweh’s judgment:

“‘For by fire and by His sword Yahweh will judge all flesh; and the slain of Yahweh shall be many. Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, eating swine’s flesh and the abomination and the mouse, shall be consumed together,’ says Yahweh.”
—Isaiah 66:16–17

This prophecy describes a future judgment. Eating swine’s flesh is still condemned in that prophetic setting. Nothing in the passage suggests that pork had been transformed into clean food.

Understanding Peter’s Vision in Acts 10

9. The Setting of the Vision

Cornelius was a Gentile Roman centurion who feared Yahweh, prayed, and gave generously. An angel instructed him to send men to Joppa to find Peter.

“Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.”
—Acts 10:5

Meanwhile, Peter went onto the housetop to pray. He became hungry, and while food was being prepared, he fell into a trance.

“He saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth.”
—Acts 10:11

The sheet contained various animals, and a voice told him:

“Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
—Acts 10:13

10. Peter Had Never Eaten Anything Unclean

Peter answered:

“Not so, Master! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
—Acts 10:14

This happened years after Yeshua’s death, resurrection, and ascension. Yet Peter still had never eaten unclean meat.

If Yeshua had taught His disciples that unclean animals were now food, Peter apparently knew nothing about it. His immediate refusal demonstrates that he continued observing Yahweh’s dietary instructions.

The voice replied:

“What Yahweh has cleansed you must not call common.”
—Acts 10:15

This happened three times, but Peter did not conclude that he should go and eat pork or shellfish.

11. Peter Did Not Immediately Understand the Vision

After the sheet was taken back into heaven, Peter was confused:

“Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant…”
—Acts 10:17

If the vision simply meant, “You may now eat every animal,” its meaning would have been obvious. Peter had been hungry, he saw animals, and he was told to eat.

But Peter knew that visions often use physical symbols to communicate a greater spiritual lesson. He therefore wondered what the vision meant.

At that exact moment, the Gentile messengers sent by Cornelius arrived.

The timing provided the key to the vision.

12. Jewish Tradition Had Created a Barrier Between Jews and Gentiles

Peter entered Cornelius’s house and explained the social barrier that had previously separated them:

“You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation.”
—Acts 10:28

This restriction was based on Jewish tradition and social custom—not a command in the Torah forbidding all contact with Gentiles. Yahweh was correcting Peter’s understanding concerning people of other nations.

Peter then gave the inspired interpretation:

“But Yahweh has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
—Acts 10:28

Peter did not say:

  • “Yahweh has shown me that pigs are clean.”
  • “Yahweh has shown me that every creature is food.”
  • “Yahweh has abolished Leviticus 11.”

He said Yahweh had shown him not to call any man common or unclean.

The animals in the vision represented people from the nations whom Jewish society regarded as spiritually defiled and unacceptable.

13. Peter Understood That Yahweh Accepts People From Every Nation

Peter then declared:

“In truth I perceive that Yahweh shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”
—Acts 10:34–35

That is the central lesson of Acts 10. Yahweh was opening the way for Gentiles to enter the community of believers without being treated as spiritually inferior.

While Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit came upon Cornelius and his household. The Jewish believers were astonished:

“Because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.”
—Acts 10:45

The chapter is about the cleansing and acceptance of Gentile believers, not the cleansing of unclean animals.

14. Peter Explained the Vision Again in Acts 11

When Peter returned to Jerusalem, some Jewish believers criticized him:

“You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”
—Acts 11:3

Notice their concern. They were not asking why Peter had supposedly eaten pork. They objected because he entered the home of Gentiles and ate with them.

Peter explained the vision and told them how the Holy Spirit had been given to Cornelius’s household.

After hearing Peter’s explanation, they concluded:

“Then Yahweh has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”
—Acts 11:18

They did not conclude:

“Then Yahweh has made every animal clean.”

Their conclusion was about the acceptance and repentance of the Gentiles. This confirms the meaning Peter gave in Acts 10:28.

15. The Symbol Should Not Be Confused With Its Meaning

Yahweh sometimes uses symbolic imagery in visions:

  • Joseph saw sheaves representing members of his family.
  • Pharaoh saw cows representing years.
  • Daniel saw beasts representing kingdoms.
  • Revelation uses lampstands to represent congregations.
  • Peter saw animals representing people whom he had been taught to regard as unclean.

The symbol in a vision is not necessarily a literal command.

Peter was told to “kill and eat,” but Acts never records him killing or eating any of the animals. The sheet was taken back into heaven. He instead went with the Gentile messengers and entered Cornelius’s home.

That action fulfilled the purpose of the vision.

16. “What Yahweh Has Cleansed” Referred to People

The voice said:

“What Yahweh has cleansed you must not call common.”
—Acts 10:15

Peter applied this statement directly to Cornelius and the other Gentiles:

“Yahweh has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
—Acts 10:28

People are cleansed through repentance, faith, forgiveness, and Yahweh’s Spirit:

“And made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”
—Acts 15:9

This is the cleansing being taught in Acts—not a declaration that scavengers and other unclean creatures had become food.

The Meaning of Acts 10 in Its Own Words

What Acts 10 says

What it does not say

Peter had never eaten anything unclean.

Peter began eating unclean animals.

Peter initially wondered what the vision meant.

The meaning was simply permission to eat everything.

Gentile messengers arrived while Peter was thinking about the vision.

Someone brought Peter pork or shellfish.

Yahweh told Peter to go with the Gentiles.

Yahweh abolished Leviticus 11.

Peter said not to call any man unclean.

Peter said no animal was unclean.

Yahweh accepts people from every nation.

Every creature is now suitable for food.

Gentiles were granted repentance unto life.

Unclean animals were reclassified as clean.

Conclusion

Yahweh created every creature for a purpose, but He did not designate every creature as human food. The distinction between clean and unclean animals existed in Noah’s time, long before Moses and Mount Sinai. Yahweh later recorded these distinctions clearly in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14.

Peter’s vision in Acts 10 did not change these instructions:

  1. Peter still refused to eat anything common or unclean.
  2. Peter wondered what the vision meant.
  3. Gentile messengers arrived as the vision ended.
  4. Peter entered a Gentile’s home.
  5. Peter explicitly said the vision taught him not to call any man unclean.
  6. The believers concluded that Yahweh had granted repentance to the Gentiles.

The inspired interpretation is unmistakable:

“Yahweh has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
—Acts 10:28

Acts 10 teaches that repentant Gentiles are not spiritually inferior or unacceptable. Yahweh receives people from every nation who turn to Him. The chapter removes human barriers between people; it does not remove Yahweh’s distinction between clean and unclean animals.
