MEN IN YESHUA’S TIME DID NOT HAVE LONG HAIR

Look past the paintings,
Look past tradition,
Go back to the Word,
Go back to the time—
What did the men of Yeshua’s day really look like?

Paul wrote the words for all to hear,
The testimony still is clear,
“Does not nature itself declare,
It is a shame for a man to wear
His hair grown long?”—the words remain,
Tradition cannot make them change.
In Corinth, Rome, and Judah too,
Men kept their hair cut short and true.

Not what the painters chose to show,
Not what tradition says we know,
Open the Scriptures, read them there—
Men in those days did not wear long hair.

Men in Yeshua’s time did not have long hair,
Scripture and history make it clear.

Yeshua walked as a man of His day,
Faithful to Yahweh in every way.

The Nazirite vow was set apart,
A special sign from the very start,
“Let the locks of his head grow long,”
Because that look was not the norm.
And Yahweh spoke of the priests who served,
Neither shaved nor long-haired were they observed,
Ezekiel records what Yahweh said:
Keep the hair well trimmed upon the head.

If flowing hair was common then,
Why make it a sign among certain men?
The exception helps the truth appear—
Long hair was not the normal wear.

They challenged His words and the things He would do,
Trying to find something they could accuse.
Yet never a charge for His hair being long,
Never a claim that His appearance was wrong.
He walked through the cities, villages, streets,
Among ordinary men that He'd teach and meet.

Centuries passed and the pictures changed,
Artists fashioned a different face.
Long flowing hair became the design,
And tradition carried it down through time.

But paintings are not the Word of Yahweh,
Tradition cannot establish The Way.
Strip away centuries, let Scripture declare—
The Yeshua of Scripture did not need long hair!
