PETER WAS NOT THE FIRST POPE (song)
[Intro]
Search the Scriptures, test every claim,
Don’t follow tradition just because it has a name.
Where does the Bible say Peter ruled in Rome?
Where does Peter call himself pope?
Nowhere.
[Verse 1]
Acts tells the story, follows Peter’s way,
Jerusalem, Samaria, Joppa in his day.
Caesarea, Jerusalem—the places all are named,
But Rome is never mentioned, no such journey is proclaimed.
Then Paul writes a letter to the believers there,
Names so many brethren with greetings and with care.
But one important name is missing from the page—
If Peter ruled in Rome, why silence through the age?

Peter was not the first pope,
That’s not what the Scriptures say.
He called himself a fellow elder,
A servant walking in The Way.
No throne, no crown, no papal name,
No ruler over Yahweh’s flock.
Yeshua is the Chief Shepherd,
Yeshua is the Rock!

Paul said, “I will never build
Upon another man’s foundation.”
Yet he wrote and traveled toward Rome
To preach to that great nation.
Peter served the circumcision,
That calling Scripture makes clear.
And when the council met in Acts,
James gave the judgment they would hear.
Yeshua warned His followers,
“Don’t rule as Gentiles do.”
The greatest must become a servant,
Humble, faithful, tried and true.

Peter was not the first pope,
That’s not what the Scriptures say.
He called himself a fellow elder,

Peter said, “Don’t lord it over
Those entrusted to your care.”
Paul corrected Peter openly—
No supreme ruler standing there.
Traditions came in later years,
But Scripture must decide.
Test the words of history
With the Bible open wide.

Not the throne of men—
The Kingdom of Yahweh!
Peter was an apostle,
A witness called and true,
But nowhere did he claim the throne
That later Rome would give him to.

The Bible never gives that name.
He was an elder and apostle,
Serving Yeshua without fame.
No throne, no crown, no papal seat,
Let Scripture be the final word.
Yeshua is the Chief Shepherd,
