They say He walked among the dead,
And preached to souls beneath the earth;
But Scripture never speaks those words,
Or gives that teaching any birth.
Yeshua died and lay within
The silent darkness of the grave;
No journey through a burning hell,
No second chance beyond the grave.
[Pre-Chorus]
Slow down and read what Peter said,
Let Scripture make the meaning clear:
The Spirit spoke in Noah’s day,
While living men could still hear.
[Chorus]
He did not preach while He was dead,
He rested silent in the grave;
The Spirit preached through Noah’s voice,
And called that ancient world to change.
They heard the warning while alive,
But turned away and would not hear;
He did not preach while He was dead—
The Word of Yahweh makes it clear.
[Verse 2]
“By which He went and preached,” it says—
By Spirit, working long before;
The Spirit spoke through faithful men
And called the nations to Yahweh.
Noah, a preacher of what’s right,
Built the ark before their eyes;
For many years the warning came,
But they rejected and despised.

They were not spirits when they heard;
They lived beneath the open sky.
They heard the truth from Noah’s lips,
Rejected it—and then they died.

Their thoughts and labors disappear.
They cannot listen or repent;

Appointed once for man to die,
And after death—the judgment day;
No secret door, no second chance,
No preaching in the silent grave.

The gospel preached to those now dead
Was preached when they were still alive;
The night will come when none can work—
Today’s the day to choose the right.
Death is a sleep until the call,
Until the dead arise and stand;
Then every life will face the throne,
According to Yahweh’s command.

No preaching tour—
No burning hell—
No conscious souls
Who heard Him tell.
