HOW THOSE WHO OBEY YAHWEH ESCAPE DECEPTION
With so much lying and propaganda coming at us in all areas of life,
from health to government, to religion.
Scripture shows how those who follow and obey Yahweh will not be deceived.
We live in a time when propaganda, carefully edited information, emotional manipulation, and outright lies can come from institutions that people once trusted. Scripture warns that deception will become especially powerful near the end of this age.
Yet Yahweh has not left His people defenseless. Those who sincerely love the truth, obey His commandments, remain close to Him, and test what they hear by Scripture can recognize deception and refuse to follow it.
1. Yeshua warned that widespread deception would come
When Yeshua was asked about the end of the age, His first warning was:
“Take heed that no man deceive you.”
— Matthew 24:4
He repeated the warning:
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
— Matthew 24:11
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
— Matthew 24:24
Deception will not always look foolish or obviously evil. It may appear convincing, respectable, scientific, patriotic, religious, compassionate, or even miraculous.
The words “if it were possible” show that the deception will be extremely persuasive—but Yahweh’s elect will not ultimately be carried away because they remain grounded in His truth.
2. Yahweh’s Word exposes lies
“Thy word is truth.”
— John 17:17
Human authorities can lie. Institutions can become corrupt. Popular opinion can change. But Yahweh’s Word remains the standard by which every claim must be tested.
“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
— Psalm 12:6
“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
— Psalm 119:130
The person whose mind is filled with Scripture develops a standard outside the world’s changing narratives. When a message contradicts Yahweh’s character, commandments, or revealed purpose, His Word brings the contradiction into the light.
3. Obedience produces spiritual understanding
The protection is not merely knowing Bible verses. It comes through living by them.
“A good understanding have all they that do his commandments.”
— Psalm 111:10
“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God.”
— John 7:17
Obedience clears spiritual vision. A person who is willing to do Yahweh’s will can recognize teaching that opposes it. But someone who already desires the world’s ways can easily accept arguments that justify those desires.
“Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.”
— Psalm 119:104
Obedience does not make a person intellectually infallible. But continued obedience, humility, and correction protect them from remaining trapped in spiritually destructive deception.
4. Loving truth protects us from delusion
Scripture warns about people who are deceived because they do not truly love the truth:
“Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”
— 2 Thessalonians 2:10–11
It is not enough to claim that we possess the truth. We must love truth enough to accept it when it corrects us.
A person who loves truth will ask:
- Is this actually true?
- What is the evidence?
- Does Scripture support it?
- Am I accepting it because it is true—or because it agrees with what I already want to believe?
- Would I change my position if better evidence proved me wrong?
Those who reject truth repeatedly can eventually lose the ability to recognize it.
5. Yahweh gives His Spirit to those who obey Him
“And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.”
— Acts 5:32
Yahweh’s Spirit guides His people into truth:
“Howbeit when it, the Spirit of truth, is come, it will guide you into all truth.”
— John 16:13
The Spirit of Yahweh is not a substitute for Scripture, careful thought, or evidence. It opens the mind to understand Yahweh’s Word and helps produce wisdom, self-control, courage, and discernment.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
— 2 Timothy 1:7
Propaganda often works by producing fear, anger, pride, or panic. Yahweh’s Spirit produces a sound mind capable of stopping, testing, and considering before reacting.
6. Yahweh’s sheep recognize Yeshua’s voice
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
— John 10:27
Yeshua’s sheep recognize His voice because they know His teaching, His character, and His way of life.
“And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.”
— John 10:5
The more faithfully we follow Yeshua, the easier it becomes to recognize a voice that appeals to hatred, lawlessness, fear, pride, greed, or blind loyalty to men.
Yeshua’s true sheep do not follow a stranger merely because he is powerful, famous, persuasive, highly educated, patriotic, or religious.
7. The wise test every claim
Scripture does not command blind trust in government, religious leaders, news organizations—or independent voices claiming that everyone else is lying.
“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”
— Proverbs 14:15
“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”
— Proverbs 18:13
“He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.”
— Proverbs 18:17
The first account may sound convincing until it is examined. Wisdom listens to more than one side and checks the evidence.
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:21
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.”
— 1 John 4:1
We must test official statements, religious teaching, alternative media, social-media posts—and our own assumptions. Distrusting everything is not discernment. It is another trap that can leave people vulnerable to anyone who presents himself as an enemy of the “establishment.”
8. The Bereans verified what they were taught
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
— Acts 17:11
The Bereans did not reject Paul automatically, nor did they believe him blindly. They listened and then checked his teaching against Scripture.
That is the biblical pattern:
- Listen without surrendering your judgment.
- Examine the complete claim.
- Compare it with Scripture.
- Verify facts wherever possible.
- Consider the source’s actions and fruit.
- Hold fast only to what proves true.
9. Good and evil are known by their fruits
“Ye shall know them by their fruits.”
— Matthew 7:16
A message or movement may use impressive words, but its fruit reveals its nature.
Look for the results:
- Does it produce truth or repeated falsehood?
- Humility or self-exaltation?
- Repentance or excuses?
- Love or hatred?
- Sound judgment or constant panic?
- Obedience to Yahweh or loyalty to a human leader?
- Willingness to be corrected or punishment for questioning?
“For every tree is known by his own fruit.”
— Luke 6:44
When leaders constantly make claims that fail, conceal facts, demand unquestioning loyalty, or attack anyone who asks honest questions, their fruit provides a warning.
10. We must not trust human authority above Yahweh
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
— Psalm 118:8
“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.”
— Psalm 146:3
Governments and institutions consist of fallible human beings. They may sometimes tell the truth and sometimes conceal, distort, or misunderstand it. Our confidence must never rest entirely upon them.
Truth is determined by evidence and agreement with reality—not merely by whether a claim comes from an official or unofficial source.
“We ought to obey God rather than men.”
— Acts 5:29
When human commands directly oppose Yahweh’s commands, Yahweh must be obeyed.
11. Pride makes people easier to deceive
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”
— Proverbs 12:15
One of deception’s greatest weapons is convincing people that they are too intelligent or spiritually enlightened to be deceived.
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:12
A humble person can say:
- “I may be wrong.”
- “I need more information.”
- “I will examine the other side.”
- “I must correct myself if the facts prove otherwise.”
That humility is a powerful defense against deception.
12. Yahweh promises wisdom to those who ask
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally… and it shall be given him.”
— James 1:5
We should ask Yahweh daily for wisdom to recognize truth, reject lies, control our emotions, and avoid rash conclusions.
“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”
— Proverbs 2:6
“Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.”
— Proverbs 2:9
13. Those who remain in Yeshua’s teaching will know the truth
“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
— John 8:31–32
Notice the condition: “If ye continue in my word.”
Protection from deception is not promised merely because someone calls himself a believer. It belongs to those who continue in Yeshua’s teaching—loving truth, obeying Yahweh, remaining humble, testing every claim, and accepting correction.
Practical safeguards against deception
Those who follow Yahweh should:
- Study Scripture regularly and in context.
- Pray for wisdom and a sound mind.
- Obey what Yahweh has already revealed.
- Refuse to make decisions while controlled by fear or anger.
- Hear the whole matter before forming a conclusion.
- Check original evidence rather than relying only on headlines.
- Compare multiple reliable sources.
- Test religious and political leaders by their fruit.
- Never give unquestioning loyalty to a human being.
- Remain willing to admit and correct mistakes.
- Love truth more than any preferred narrative.
Conclusion
Yahweh does not protect His people by making them automatically correct about every subject. He protects them by giving them His Word, His Spirit, His commandments, wisdom, humility, and the ability to test what they hear.
The elect will not ultimately be swept away by the great spiritual deception because they recognize Yeshua’s voice and refuse to follow strangers. They love truth more than comfort, popularity, political loyalty, or personal pride.
“Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”
— Psalm 119:133
“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”
— Psalm 119:165
The safest place in an age of deception is not blind confidence in human institutions—or automatic distrust of everything. It is humble, faithful obedience to Yahweh, continual study of His Word, and a sincere love of truth.
